Lighthouse volunteers share their time, skills, passion and experience to help children and young people belong, heal and thrive. Every volunteer sends a powerful message to the young people in our care: you are worthy of someone else’s time, care and support.
We are always looking for people who can offer their time and expertise to support our vital work with children, young people and families, both directly and indirectly. Whether you’re interested in joining one of our volunteer committees or supporting our Community Pantry, there are a range of meaningful ways to get involved
Ways to volunteer
There are a range of ways to volunteer with Lighthouse, depending on your interests, skills and availability. Whether you’d like to support one of our homes, strengthen our foster care community, lend a hand in our Community Pantry or assist at events and fundraising activities, every volunteer plays an important role in helping children and young people feel safe, supported and connected.
Home Committees
Our Home Committees provide real, tangible support to our homes, carers and young people. Made up of dedicated volunteers, each committee helps ensure their local Lighthouse home has the support it needs to remain a safe, welcoming and nurturing place for the children and young people who call it home.
Committee members provide practical assistance, strengthen community connections and help support the everyday needs of each home, making a lasting difference to the lives of young people and their carers.
Foster Care Committees
Our Foster Care Committee helps deepen the sense of belonging and connection for our foster carers and the children in their care.
Through advocacy, relationship building and event planning, committee members help foster carers feel connected, valued and supported throughout their caring journey.
Community Pantry Volunteers
Our Community Pantry volunteers play a pivotal role in helping ensure the children, young people and families in our care have reliable access to nutritious food, personal care products and essential everyday items.
Volunteers can support the pantry by:
- Collecting donations from our community and corporate partners.
- Sorting and preparing donations at our Community Pantry hub in Cremorne.
- Packing and distributing food and essential items across our Lighthouse homes and programs.
Every volunteer shift helps ensure young people have access to the essentials they need while reminding them they are cared for by their community.
Events and Administration Support
From time to time, we also seek volunteers to support fundraising events, community activities and practical projects at our Youth Resource Hub. These opportunities vary throughout the year and are a great way to get involved when additional support is needed.
Mandatory Volunteer Checks
To help ensure the safety and wellbeing of the children and young people in our care, all Lighthouse volunteers are required to complete a screening and onboarding process before commencing their volunteer role.

- Volunteers with direct contact with the children or young people are also required to undertake a psycho-social screen with one of our Lighthouse psychologists.
