As the year comes to a close, we’re reflecting on the young people who’ve found care and stability through Lighthouse, and those still waiting for that same chance.
Right now, over 7,600 young people aged 12–24 are experiencing homelessness in Victoria.
Behind each number is a story; a young person who deserves safety, care, and a place to call home.
One of those stories belongs to Jacinta.
At just 16, Jacinta was on the brink of homelessness after her grandfather’s health declined. He had been her main source of love and support, but when he could no longer care for her, Jacinta’s world fell apart.
“I remember feeling completely lost. I didn’t think anyone could help me,” Jacinta recalls.
That changed when she was introduced to Lighthouse Foundation’s Transitional Program, where she found stability, guidance, and people who truly listened.
With ongoing care and support, Jacinta rebuilt her trust in others and began planning for her future. Through our On For Life program, she continues to receive guidance and connection long after leaving care.
Today, Jacinta is living independently, studying to become a paramedic, and reunited with her beloved dog Charlotte.
