Partnering with purpose
On Tuesday 9 September, Lighthouse Foundation hosted its very first Packing Day — a milestone event filled with energy, collaboration and generosity. Our valued partners joined forces with one purpose: to prepare essential kits and thoughtful gifts that will support children and young people across Lighthouse homes throughout the year.
This was more than just an opportunity to give back; it was a chance for like-minded professionals to connect, all united by a shared mission: creating safe, nurturing environments for vulnerable young people.
The results were inspiring. Over 100 participants rolled up their sleeves to create:
- Welcome Packs for children and young people arriving at Lighthouse.
- Independence Packs for young people moving into their own homes.
- Pantry Packs filled with essential food staples.
- Birthday Presents to ensure every child feels celebrated.
By the end of the day, over 200 care packs and 60 pantry bags had been lovingly assembled. Each one carried a message of hope: “You are seen, supported, and cared for by your community.”
Inspiring Voices: Harry Sanders, Susan Barton AM and Jake Elliott
Throughout the day, powerful stories reminded us why this work matters.
- Susan Barton AM, Founder and Director of Lighthouse Foundation, spoke about what this inaugural event represents for the young people in our care.
- Harry Sanders, Lighthouse Ambassador and Founder of StudioHawk, shared his moving lived experience of homelessness, captivating the entire room.
- Jake Elliott, Youth & Family Services Therapeutic Specialist, offered insights into Lighthouse’s unique trauma-informed model of care and the ripple effect of small acts of kindness.
Partners also spoke from the heart about their connection to Lighthouse and the impact these relationships have—not only on young people but also on their own organisations and communities.
One of the most moving moments was when every attendee wrote a heartfelt card, donated by Hallmark Australia, for a child or young person in our programs. Watching a room full of professionals pause to put pen to paper, offering encouragement and love, created a quiet but powerful moment of magic.
Thank you to our partners
Lighthouse Foundation’s inaugural Packing Day was made possible thanks to the generosity of our incredible partners:
- Official Partners: Alfasi (hosting partner), GlobeWest, Jellis Craig, MICM, Natio, RedZed, StudioHawk and Victor Smorgon Group.
- Supporting Partners: T-House and Provincial Home Living.
- Friends of Lighthouse: Hansen Yuncken, First Nations Traffic Management and Stripe.
Special thanks go to Alfasi, who welcomed us into their stunning foyer, Gunnii for creating a warm and hospitable environment, and Hailey from Victor Smorgon Group, who volunteered countless hours to help bring the event to life.
Every contribution — whether goods, services, or time, was rooted in genuine care and commitment.
Small Acts, Lasting Impact
Lighthouse’s first Packing Day was more than a volunteer initiative. It was an act of compassion, community and connection. Each care pack symbolised love and support for a young person who may have experienced trauma, neglect or homelessness.
The impact will extend far beyond this one day, reaching every child who opens a thoughtfully prepared pack and feels the reassurance that they are not alone.
To everyone who attended, donated and supported us: thank you. Together, we proved that kindness really can transform lives.
