Our Young People

I want to thank Sue Barton for creating Lighthouse. She has given me a home where I feel safe for the first time in my whole life. 19yo male resident

Lighthouse for me is Sue Barton. Sue is a champion of the homeless, the disadvantaged, the people who have had a hard and tough life. 21yo male resident

I have never had a positive female role model. There was only ever screaming and yelling when I was growing up. It is going to take time for me to trust females, but I am going to keep on trying. 18yo female resident

Lighthouse is all about the relationships you create with others. I am going to know Lighthouse people for the rest of my life. It’s like family. You always know your family. 21yo female resident

It gives me great pleasure to say that Lighthouse has taken me in and I have been here now for nearly two years. They have helped me to go to school, have a place to call home and most of all they have given me a family environment. I thank Lighthouse very much. 20yo female resident

I never had a childhood. I was a mother to my two little sisters because my Mum couldn’t look after them. Being here now, I get to play and be irresponsible and it is totally ok. 20yo female resident

For me the most important thing we do in our house is that we sit around a table having dinner just like a normal family and we talk about our day. 22yo female resident

Each young person goes on a journey whilst here at Lighthouse. With Amy, the most beautiful thing to watch has been her blossoming artistic side. Through VCAL and a Lighthouse art-therapy course, Amy has discovered a passion for art. She is a talented writer and artist who has touched the hearts of many with her work. More importantly however, Amy has discovered that through art, she has found a way to process and heal the pain in her past. written by Support Carer for "Amy" (not her real name)
